Don't rely on your web host strictly as backup storage, at least read up 
on there policy of backups. dont automatically assume your backups are 
being backed up lol.

Anyway if its a Linux/apache host you can enable directory indexing for 
that folder, and you will be able to browse /photos/ and get folder/file 
listings and view pictures.

Go into your /photos/ folder and create a file called .htaccess and put 
this inside of it

Options +Indexes

Yes its got a dot in front of the file name, its a hidden nix file.
