Are you sure it is the mechanical parts? Which mechanical parts? A bad motor is not too expensive to fix I'm guessing. A bent or broken drive head means the data is probably toast. Or powdered toast, like in Powdered Toast Man.

If it is the drive electronics, try replacing that with those from an identical drive. You could practice on some old identical drives.
