If you're ever stuck in single user mode on a busted Solaris/AIX/HPUX
system, then vi is good to know. :)
I use vi (really vim) cause it's powerful. Stuff like
copying/cutting/pasting by letters, words, or lines. change word instead
of having to backspace over it first. Regular expression search and
replace. Visual block editing when you have column formatted text.
For GUI though, i'll sometimes use kate in KDE. It's probably the fastest
GUI editor, albeit still a bit quirky.
Surprised no one mentioned gvim :)
