Agreed. If you're just looking to get your feet wet on your home network,
definitely Samba + OpenLDAP will do what you need. However, try not to
over complicate things up front. Samba and OpenLDAP are both hairy beasts
in their own right, haha. Get Samba working just using local linux
accounts (/etc/passwd and smbpasswd), then get your Windows users logging
in using their linux credentials. After that, then try to add the LDAP
piece.
