I don't know what app my Nokia n800 is running in the background, but it runs linux and the text prediction is pretty good. I'm typing on it right now!
Perhaps the software that is on the n800 is available for use.
Try checking http://maemo.org

ps; I too am fixing to have another newborn, I think the Nokia N800 is going to be great for those late night fedings! The N800 is one of the coolest gadgets I have ever owned, highly recommended!

Subject: [brlug-general] Word Prediction/Completion
Do any of you know of a word prediction or word completion program that
can output text to a desired program? This function is common in most
commercial on-screen keyboards but my search has turned up a few dead
projects that are very undocumented such as oskey and keystone and some
stuff that's in the works (e.g., onboard).

My immediate need/want: a plugin for pidgin that would allow me to write
with one hand while I'm holding my newborn. Long-term Goal: As a member
of the EBRP School System Assistive Technology Team, I work with
students that have multiple disabilities and we're always buying
software to meet these students' needs. It would be awesome to be able
to show the school system what free software can do.

Anything would be helpful.
