I'd like to know how well a Knoppix boot goes.  The crapware you can't see can 
be worse than the crapware that's obvious.  

Non free drivers are a trade off between performance and flexibility.  Non 
free X drivers, for example, may work better but create customization and 
upgrade headaches.  

Spyware, if it has any, would render it something that can't be trusted.
