Well, this probably sounds snarky, but any distro that doesn't consider
OpenVPN an essential package that is part of their main distribution and
security updates is not a distro for me. I am a longtime Debian user so take
my advise with a grain of salt, but when I evaluated Ubuntu it struck me as
mainly geared toward home desktop use and not server use. I say Debian stable
is still the gold standard for Linux servers. It has its problems which I
have complained plenty about on the bug tracking system, but I still think
it's better than the others. I am also open to the argument that BSDs are
superior for server use, but Linux has been extremely good since 2.6.15 so I'm
not sure how much better a BSD could be. I haven't had a non-application
problem in over a year now, and my uptimes have been limited by power outages
or hardware failures.
