Worms,
Sounds like the same problem i had. Getty's aren't being started on your
virtual terminals. I posted a fix here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=424078
Apparently it's a known problem with converting some stuff in
/etc/inittab.

Re: feisty boot problem
The problem is with the 'Unknown stanza' error messages in event.d. A typo
prevents the getty's from starting on the virtual terminals. So you never
get a login prompt.
Look at /etc/event.d/tty1. The 2 last lines should look like this:
exec /sbin/getty 38400 tty1
respawn
Notice the very very bad typos... i'm not sure how such a bug slipped
through. Fix it in the tty1 through tty6 files, reboot, and you should be
able to login. Perhaps someone can report this bug if it's not already
known. I haven't looked yet.
I just upgraded from dapper to edgy to feist. Now on to the next problem
haha.
