[brlug-general] Is OpenOffice just "good enough"?

Hi Guys,  (Is it possible to post in HTML?)

I use the latest Java for my viewing of the www.noaa.gov site in Xandros. I view
the wx radar from the Fort Worth office, streamed to S'port, when the weather
appears to be bad and Skywarn MIGHT be called up on the 146.67/.07 repeater.
There have been recent storms in the Ft. Worth/Dallas, TX area that were so
severe in lightning strikes, it took the server in Ft. Worth off-line for a period of 
time, leaving me, essentially, in-the-dark as I have no access to the local Wx
Service radar here. Hmmm, that sounds like a ham project, LOL!

Yep, I'm getting old and turning into a Weather Channel watcher, LOL! Only
their radar only comes on the 8's. By then a tornado has come through and is
half way to Ruston or Magnolia, AR. Not a good thing, especially when we want
to warn the other towns of impending bad weather. :-(

The local TV stations radars operate on 5 ghz. The Wx Service radars operate
on 10 ghz and gives MUCH greater detail.  So I choose to view the radar from
S'port, thru the Ft. Worth server.  Make sense?  Nope.

Now, I've digressed just a tad. I also have Java on my WIN 2K Pro HD and it
seems to run much slower in bringing up the changes I make in selecting a
search...from the Base Reflectivity loop to the Composite Reflectivity loop. I
don't think it's a RAM problem, as I have just over a GIG of P-133. Linux runs
=faster. That's the only application I use JAVA for. There are supposed to be 
games and other stuff, but right now, my focus is on Fedora 6 and my ham
radio.  Oh, I have been getting out in the yard and trying to do some yard work
and build up my stamina.  But, the coming Heat & Humidity season will soon
force me back inside, in the air-conditioning.  :-(
