I wrote Brian Nichols last night, and I'll be happy to share his answers when
and if I get them.
I'm mostly concerned with user freedom. While the move might make things
technically difficult for Windows users, they are not going to surrender
anything that Microsoft has not already claimed by EULA, and technical
measures. Window's poor security record also makes the plan sound reasonabe.
The same things can not be said of GNU/Linux and plans to administer those
machines would be far more sinister. There is no justification for trying to
administer GNU/Linux machines owned by students. Plans and intent, those are
the issues I hope Mr. Nichols will answer.
What I hope to get here is a technical understanding of the issue. That
includes how it's really playing out in the field.
