[brlug-general] Plasma vs. LCD

I've never heard of a *plasma* TV bulb.  As far as I know, there's no such
thing.  DLP TVs, however, do use a bulb.  I've logged around 15,000 hours in
the 2 years I've owned my DLP (which I bought new) and I've noticed no
apparent drop in brightness.  In addition, the "expensive" bulb can be found
on eBay for under $100.  I haven't yet needed to purchase a new one, but
they're extremely easy to install/uninstall.

DLPs have a great picture - much better than LCD, in my opinion - and no
motion blur.  The crippling factor is that DLP TVs are not "flat" in the
same sense as LCDs and plasmas, but they get quite thin (5 - 7 inches in
width) and they're very lightweight (my Samsung 56" is just under 50 lbs).
They also display dark colors better than any LCD I've seen.

Bottom line: Your best bet is to stay away from plasmas.  LCDs control most
of the market and the technology is very young considering its potential.
