Good Morning, All,
I have decided to give up on Xandros Linux. I'm not having much luck in gettting it to work
as I wish. I was encouraged by some others to TRY Fedora 6. I purchased the "Fedora 6
and Red Hat Enterprise Linux Bible" by Christopher Negus.
Bad sign #1: The CD's did not allow me to "install" it on a 15 gig Maxtor drive and the CD's
were 'defective'. I do not have a DVD player or writer on this machine..1.2 gig Athlon/1 gig
of 133mhz RAM.
I did manage to sercure the 5 CD set to "Core 6", but it only required I believe 2 CD's of
that to install it (?).
Bad sign #2: It did not allow me to pick the "pkgs" I wanted and installed EVERYTHING!
Being new at this, I'm not sure I'm ever going to need all the "servers" it loaded. All I'm
really interested in is doing antenna designs (research & building), storing some Space
photo's, and storing my MP3 music to play in the background (like a juke box) while I'm
working or just as a music machine.
Any suggestions as to HOW I can eliminate or keep to a minimum what packages I'll
need?
Respectfully, submitted,
Donald
