Don't see how it would be a problem, as long as your motherboard
supports sata if thats what the new drive is. If thats the case though,
you will figure it out really quick :).
Also, maybe you'd want to look into nxmachine (rdp like server/client
for linux) or 2x (same, haven't tried it yet) to turn your fedora
machine into an rdp client, so he can get some gui action from where
ever he is.
I built my nephew (now 8) a pc out of spare parts a year ago. I gave
him Ubuntu. He loves stellarium.
