This website tells you if an album is released under the umbrella of the
RIAA: www.riaaradar.com
I have been boycotting the RIAA since 2000.
There has been a movement for artists to release music for free. Not
that there is much to choose from. Some that I know of:
Harvey Danger -- they ask that you send $10 if you like it
Barenaked Ladies -- was offered free for a limited time.
Definitive Swim -- A collection of underground hip hop released by
Cartoon Network's Adult Swim.
Another band I like (they are no longer around), The Dismemberment Plan,
released all the master files to their last album, and took submissions
for remixes, and released those remixes as an album.
I think Nine Inch Nails released a song off their album for free as
well. I have also heard of several artists (can't remember which)
allowing you to buy direct from them, in digital form, for $10 or something.
I'm a music junkie though.
Just my 2 cents.
