Ok,
Be gentle with me, LOL! My Win 2K Pro computer my grandson was using has developed
a "problem" (Whoda' thunk, LOL!). Ok, so I took a blank and formatted 8 gig HD and tried
to load Win 2K Pro from the CD on it.....Nope, it "says" that numerous "files" are "missing",
"would not load, try again?" or "corrupted". This is a read ONLY CD.
As I am to understand, Microsoft's system checks the "date" on your machine. It has a
"secret code" that checks it and if it's past a certain date, it won't load no matter what and
you are 'forced' to purchase another legal copy of the O/S.
Now, I'm not able to find a WIN 2K Pro CD for sale. I'm not wasteing good money on that
POS Win VISTA. My grandson needs to finish a Power Point presentation for homework.
The Ex, go a Sony Viao back in 2002. It came with XP Home. It has worked flawlessly for
her, but she doesn't have room nor does she want XP Office 2000 Pro on her machine for
William to finish his Power Point project. I, however use XP Office Pro 2k.
Now, the Ex has an unopened package with WIN XP Home (2002 edition). Would it be
possible to wipe my WIN drive and install this program on the HD and get it to work, even
thought my computer is not a Sony? I have an Iwill KK-266, Athlon 1.2 processor with 1 ghz
of P-133 RAM.
Later this summer, I'm going to put the XP Home drive into a machine for William, the
13 year old grandson, and I will still have a seperate Fedora 6 HD (not dual booted) that
I can use for my ham radio contacts, music, antenna research, and pictures of space:
planets, stars, galaxies, gas clouds, nebuli, etc & things I find interesting on Earth: valleys,
mountains, rivers, streams, forest, rocks, canyons, buttes, animals, plants and of course,
people from all over the World....even some from Baton Rouge, if you want to send them
to me, hehehehe. I promise to send my "ugly mug" back. LOL!
Thanks in advance,
Respectfully submitted,
73,
Don/K5-MKE
