I find Debian stable to be the best for me.  I like that you don't have to
mess with things for a couple of years, and the package system is the best
(although not even close to perfect).  It's usually way behind the times as
far as hardware compatibility, but I always buy slightly obselete hardware
anyway so that isn't a problem for me.
