[brlug-newbies] Newbies Digest, Vol 52, Issue 3

It's a former USB cased WD800BB that was intended for a "backup" for my home
network, but when the HD in one of my boxes went out, I remounted it as an
IDE, internally in the box.

It has no bootloader, or to my knowledge, anything on it right now. Not
even formatted. Does Linux require the drive be formatted? I've got a copy
of Knoppix 4.0 or Unbutu or Xandros 2.0., if not, but those are not working
either.

So far, I've run a couple of test programs trying to "troubleshoot" the box
and this is all I can find. The fan was out on the PS, so I replaced the PS
(with a slightly higher output, so I think I'm okay there), ran "memtest 3.3"
on the RAM, "UBCD 411" on the MB and HD,and a HD utility to test for bad
sectors on the HD. Can you tell from the programs that I'm doing this on a
shoestring?
