Greetings all,

The next workshop will be held on Monday, May 5, 2008, starting at 6 PM, in
the club Linux lab. Since we had an Open House this past weekend, this
workshop will be an InstallFest. The purpose of an InstallFest is to help you
install Linux on your personal computer. To have Linux installed, bring
just "the box". We don't need your mouse, keyboard or monitor. If you wish to
continue to use Windows along with Linux, prior to the InstallFest, you will
need to boot into Windows Safe Mode and run both scandisk and defrag. If you
have time, run them both several times. We also recommend that you back up
your Windows installation prior to the InstallFest.

We will have copies of PCLinuxOS, and Xandros Open Circulation Edition 3.2 and
4.5 available. In order to install Xandros OCE 4.5, you will need to have a
DVD drive in your computer.

If you wish to install a version of Linux other than PCLinuxOS or Xandros,
please download the ISO, burn it to the appropriate media and bring it with
you. You can browse the many various Linux distributions that are available
at Distro Watch.

Some other popular desktop distributions are Mepis, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Knoppix,
and LinuxMint.

Veteran SIG members, please come out and help us with the InstallFest.

I need some folks that can possible be at the club at 6 PM to get the
InstallFest moving as I may not be able to get there until a bit later.
However, I will get by the club during the day Monday and leave some copies
of PCLinuxOS and Xandros on the instructors desk.

Also, any current SIG members that are needing help with hardware or software
configuration or needs to do a new installation, please bring your machine
and we will see if we can get you fixed up.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the InstallFest.

Ed Richards
